CONDITIONS IMPROVED
Unwanted scars or birthmarks
BENEFITS
Improve the appearance of major birthmarks or unsightly scars from previous surgeries or traumas.
THE DETAILS
It is recommended that scar revision patients wait at least six months to one year after the injury (or surgery) that caused the scar to ensure that the body heals itself as much as possible. Prior to the procedure, it is important to discuss options and expectations with our plastic surgeons. At that time, techniques and probable outcomes will be explored. Z-plasty is one surgical technique used to reposition a scar so that it more closely conforms to the natural lines and creases of the skin. Skin grafting and flap surgery are more serious scar surgery techniques that require several weeks or months to heal.
Our experienced surgeons perform these procedures at the hospital or surgical center. Healing times will vary depending on the scar revision technique employed. Best case scenario, the patient will be up and about very quickly and the doctors will advise a schedule for resuming normal activity.
