Tummy Tuck (Abdominoplasty) In Northern Michigan

What Is A Tummy Tuck (Abdominoplasty)?

A tummy tuck is often sought by individuals after bariatric surgery, significant weight loss, or as part of a Mommy Makeover following pregnancy to eliminate loose skin and tissue that fails to adapt to their new body shape.

Each tummy tuck procedure is customized to meet the specific needs of the patient, necessitating a thorough evaluation by a skilled and experienced plastic surgeon. With the guidance of a qualified, board-certified plastic surgeon, undergoing a tummy tuck can effectively sculpt, flatten, and tone the abdominal region, leading to a notable enhancement of the overall physique.

Before your consultation, our patient care coordinator will contact you to discuss your goals and the specific procedure you’re interested in. This conversation will cover eligibility criteria, recovery expectations, pricing, and financing options. Once you’re ready to proceed, we’ll schedule your consultation. To enhance your experience, we provide tummy tuck consultations in both Petoskey and Traverse City, with the procedure typically performed in Traverse City at the Copper Ridge Surgery Center.

A tummy tuck generally takes about two hours, though the duration may vary based on the extent of skin tightening and removal needed. This procedure is typically performed in a hospital or outpatient setting.

Before the surgery begins, patients receive a combination of medical treatments to induce a temporary, sleep-like state, ensuring their comfort by eliminating any pain sensations.

During the procedure, the incision is usually curved, horizontally oriented, or elliptical in shape, located low on the abdomen below the belly button and near the pubic hairline to help conceal any resulting scars beneath most swimwear and underwear. Excess skin and fat are removed, and any stretched or separated abdominal muscles are repaired as necessary. In some cases, repositioning the belly button may be required, with surgeons using skin adhesives, tapes, and sutures for closing the incisions.

Additionally, liposuction may be performed at the same time as the tummy tuck to remove excess fat from the surrounding area. Depending on individual concerns, a second incision may be made around the belly button to address issues related to skin, muscle, or fat in the upper abdomen.
