Breast Augmentation In Northern Michigan

What Is Breast Augmentation?

In contrast to breast lift or reduction surgeries, breast augmentation is designed to enhance breast volume, creating a fuller and more youthful appearance. This cosmetic procedure involves the placement of FDA-approved implants either behind the natural breast tissue or the chest muscle to achieve the desired fullness. The implants, which can be filled with saline or silicone gel, are backed by warranties from reputable manufacturers.

Breast augmentation is typically performed as an outpatient procedure under general anesthesia and usually takes about 1-2 hours. The incision, generally less than 2 inches in length, is skillfully concealed within the breast crease or along the border of the areola. Recovery time is generally quick, with most patients resuming normal activities within a week after their breast augmentation.

Breast Augmentation Procedure

Prior to your consultation, you will receive a call from our patient care coordinator, who will discuss the specifics of your desired procedure including eligibility, recovery expectations, pricing and financing options. Once you feel ready to move forward with the procedure, you will be scheduled for a consultation. We offer consultations for breast augmentation in our Petoskey office as well as our Traverse City office for your convenience. The procedure itself is performed in Traverse City, typically at the Copper Ridge Surgery Center.

During your breast augmentation procedure, you will be placed under general anesthesia, which typically lasts between one to two hours. Our surgeons focus on minimizing scarring by utilizing an inframammary incision, strategically placed beneath the breast crease. This incision provides convenient access to the breast pocket for implant placement. The small incision is meticulously sutured using absorbable stitches, eliminating the need for later removal, and the resulting scar is discreetly concealed within the natural contour of the breast.

After the procedure, you will be able to return home the same day, although you may experience some drowsiness. It is crucial to have a responsible adult accompany you home and remain with you for the first 24 hours following your surgery.
