Breast Cancer

As you navigate a recent breast cancer diagnosis, you’re not alone. At The Center, we are here to offer support and our surgeons and staff have the expertise to help you get feeling back to yourself as soon as you’re ready.

Breast Cancer

Breast cancer is one of the most common malignancies found in women. This sort of cancer develops from the breast cells, working its way from the inside, out. Once the area is affected, it can spread to other parts of the body. It is not only the most common, but also the most invasive cancer in all females worldwide. This sort of cancer is held responsible for almost twenty percent of all cancer deaths in the world.

Breast cancer rates, surprisingly, are much higher in developed countries in comparison to third world, developing countries. This does make sense, however, because breast cancer is more common in older women and the life expectancy in developing countries is lower.

As the cause of cancer is unknown, it does become more difficult to say why it starts developing in the the body. The most common reasons, of course, are genetics and aging.

There are many treatments and therapies to help reduce the cancer formation, such as radiation, chemotherapy and, potentially, surgery.

At The Center, we are dedicated to supporting our Northern Michigan breast cancer patients with the most advanced, expert breast reconstruction techniques and care. Our surgeons are proud to participate in the multi-disciplinary breast initiative at Munson Medical Center and we routinely collaborate with medical oncologists, radiation oncologists and general surgeons to formulate a plan of attack with regard to this disease. We are here for you.

Patient Reviews

“Upon receiving my breast cancer diagnosis, I knew I needed a breast reconstructive plastic surgeon/doctor who would not only be skilled, but who I could trust. During my first visit with Dr. Jeffries and his staff, I knew that they were going to be a great fit for me! Dr. Jeffries made me feel super comfortable with what could have been a very tense and scary situation. They were so compassionate and caring—I felt as though I was welcomed as family. Dr. Jeffries always listened to my concerns and never made my husband feel or me like our questions were silly. He is a perfectionist and it truly shows in his work.”

“I saw Dr. Thomas on recommendation from my oncologist and now I know that if it wasn’t for him I wouldn’t have had the experience I did. After I had my mastectomy I didn’t want to think about my next surgery, but when I went to see the staff at The Center I felt so much more positive and like there was a light at the end of the tunnel. They all made me feel so reassured and they really know their surgeries. Dr. Thomas is very personable and extremely caring—he is nothing but wonderful. I always felt like I was in the best of hands and felt reassured that everything would be wonderful, and it was. My experience with the whole staff has been fantastic.”

“Dear Dr. Jeffries, I just wanted to say thank you for all you have done for me. I’m so grateful to God that He led me to you. This cancer journey for me has been long and difficult, but through it all, you didn’t give up, or just bail out as my Dr., you will never know how thankful I am. I didn’t know if I would ever feel or look somewhat “normal” again, and now I do! You and your team have been such a blessing to me, I just wanted you to know! May God Bless you always!”
