Gynecomastia is a condition that causes overdeveloped male breasts. It affects an estimated 40 to 60 percent of men. Breast reduction surgery is one possible treatment of the condition, to remove fat or glandular tissue from the breasts. Skin removal can further flatten, firm and contour the chest.
Am I a candidate for Male Breast Reduction?
The ideal candidates for correction of gynecomastia are healthy, emotionally stable men with firm, elastic skin. Prior to breast reduction surgery, the plastic surgeon will examine the patient to check for causes of the condition that should be treated with additional therapies. Often, liposuction alone will be recommended. In a patient who has lost considerable weight, a full upper body lift may be necessary. Our treatment is truly individualized.
Drs. Thomas and Jeffries perform this procedure at the hospital or surgical center. Following the surgery, it is common to experience swelling and bruising. Most of the swelling will subside after a few weeks and all normal activity can be resumed after approximately one month.
